Hemp is the cousin of cannabis that does not contain a significant amount of THC. Hemp became officially legal in 2018 for production of industrial hemp. States must permit however. These plans must be approved by the USDA. All laws are implemented under your state.

Illinois operates under the 2014 Farm Bill according to the United States Department of Agriculture.  This bill protects the research of hemp under a state’s hemp research pilot program. Illinois is one of twenty-three states to still operate under this bill. Cultivation and growth of hemp must be state approved for research or educational purposes only. Hemp can be grown in Illinois under state conditions.

Illinois adopted the Illinois Industrial Hemp Act on April 29, 2019, which operates under the 2014 Farm Bill, not the 2018 Farm Bill. These bills allowed all states the authority to reject or welcome the concept presented in the bill. To farm hemp in Illinois you must comply with the guidelines outlined by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Operate under them, and you’ll do just fine.
